About the Central Registry, GCP-CR

The GCP Central Registry is a project of the Generation Challenge Program, sub program 4. Project description task 26 (2005) and proposal (2006). Project home page is [http://gcpcr.grinfo.net/].

Search files:

You will find a simple keyword search and an detailed search form. From the detailed search form you can control columns to display in the output with the checkbox to the right.

From the search result page you may further add columns to display or remove columns [x]. The search criteria may be further modified. And you may chose the sort order by clicking the column headers. Click again to have reverse sort order. You may also control the number of records you wish to view per page.

Login to register your dataset:

You will need to log in as a registered user to register new datasets and upload files and resources. A few files and resources have temporary limited access restricted to registered consortium members only. All files and resources will become public with no access protection.

Register dataset and upload files:

Before upload of your file you will need to register and describe a new dataset. Each dataset can have one or more uploaded files attached. You will find the [Add file] button from the dataset detail page. You may also upload your file by conventional ftp (if e.g. your file is too large for html form upload) and use the same procedure with the [Add file] button from the dataset detail page. The uploaded files and resources are assigned a simple sequence number and stored on the GCP-CR web server. The reported metadata are stored in a PostgreSQL database server.

    Procedure:
  1. Register new dataset and enter resource description.
  2. From the dataset detail page, select [Add file].
  3. Use the html form to upload your file (ftp upload is also possible).
  4. Select [File details] (from the dataset detail page) if you wish to further describe the file or add (temporary) access restrictions.

Data conversion and data submission templates:

Work is in progress on a parser application to convert your dataset to the GCP [Data Submission Templates] formats. This parser is also planned to be made available online from the GCP Central Registry. If the file you upload to the CR is an XML document or Excel spreadsheet of the format specified by the templates, then the data can be converted to the standard GCP XML data format and imported to the CR data index. This will allow search and retrival of uploaded files based on the data content. This work is still in progress.

Work in progress...

Data import and index:

A tool to index the data provided from the GCP BioCASE data provider software installed at the GCP partner sites is made available from [http://chm.grinfo.net] Here you will be able to search and view germplasm passport data. Other data models besides the germplasm (GCP Passport Data Model) will be made available at a later time. See the GCP Data Modelling web page for more information.

Work in progress...

Read more about the Central Registry or participate in the discussion of the design of the application at [CropWiki] (NB! CropWiki requires user login!). The Central Registry is also available from [CropForge].
